Mason Mount will not play in today’s crucial match against Manchester City.
The England international was injured during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Aston Villa, but he played on and scored a penalty in the shootout.
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel responded when asked if it would change the way he approaches the game: “Yes and no, he is disappointed, but I didn’t notice it during the game because it happened in the second half and he continued to play.
“It came as a bit of a shock, because the steps he is taking now to recover are enormous. If the game had been a day later, he might have been able to play.
“It’s a disappointment for him, but it’s also a disappointment for us because he’s a major player.
Now it’s up to you to come up with solutions without him.”
Tuchel also confirmed that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is fit to play against the Premier League champions and will start.
